Comfort Zone for Hot Converters

Over the last few years, Rittal’s LCP Rack Industry system has proved highly effective in its ability to cool power electronics in switchgear.

Rittal has now developed a new generation of these air/water heat exchangers with numerous improvements and advantages, aimed at improving its performance for control and switchgear manufacturers, as well as users of the machinery and equipment.

Rittal’s Liquid Cooling Package (LCP) Rack Industry is a system which has proved highly effective at providing climate control for whole suites of enclosures. If an air/water heat exchanger is installed in the centre of a bayed enclosure suite, then the resultant cooling air can be blown towards both sides in the enclosure. Cooling outputs of up to 10kW means that even the most demanding climate control requirements can be met, such as those of cooling frequency converters.

The 30cm wide climate control enclosure can also be easily integrated into the Rittal TS 8 baying system.

Busbars can be fitted easily
A new, improved LCP Rack Industry system now features recesses to allow the routing of busbar systems and cables.

“It means that we are meeting the requirements of our customers, who want to use LCP cooling systems in bayed enclosures, along with continuous busbar systems”, says Christian Westwood, Rittal’s Climate Control Product Manager.

There is space for introducing the busbar system at the top of the climate control enclosure while, below that, there is room for the N/PE rails. Additional cabling can be added-in in both positions, which makes the LCP Rack Industry extremely flexible. All this delivers high performance cooling, notably in large switchgear units with full-length busbar systems.

Placing an enclosure on both sides of the heat exchanger enclosure doubles the impact of the system, enabling the cooling of two enclosures.

Quiet, Energy-Saving and UL Listed
The energy efficiency of the new LCP Rack Industry is also now significantly higher.  The improved system uses EC fans that consume roughly half as much energy as the previous model, to reduce running costs. In addition, the fan’s optional speed control means that the noise level can be reduced in sensitive areas.

The new LCP Rack Industry already has UL Listing, which means it can be used in the USA without any problems.

Hygienic Climate Control

Production plants in the food and pharmaceutical markets naturally place hygiene as a top priority – a focus which also applies to the enclosure technology they use.

With its new, hygienic design, air/water heat exchangers, Rittal is offering a standardised solution for efficient enclosure climate control in applications where hygiene is critical. Thanks to their IP69K protection category, the units are suitable for use in industries such as food and pharmaceuticals which use high-pressure cleaning systems.

High levels of hygiene are, of course, essential in food and pharmaceuticals production plants and it is no surprise, therefore, that the systems and components which are used within these hygiene-critical areas must meet exacting requirements.

The latest addition to Rittal’s enclosure climate control range is an air/water heat exchanger specifically for use in this type of environment.

This wall-mounted heat exchanger has a number of critical features, including a roof pitch of 30 degreees, which makes it impossible for objects to be placed on top of it and of course, the pitch means liquids quickly run off the top.  Furthermore, the external gasket is made of silicone and meets the FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 Guideline, preventing contamination between the housing of the air/water heat exchanger and the enclosure itself.

The heat exchanger features a housing made of stainless steel (Euronorm 1.4301) which is brushed on the outside (grain size 400) and has a surface roughness under 0.8 µm, making it easy to clean. The housing is also rated as IP69K (DIN 40050-9) to withstand high-pressure cleaners and daily cleaning with a steam cleaner.

They can be installed as wall-mounted units on the side, rear panel, or door of an enclosure. Two versions of the unit are available, offering the option of cooling outputs of either 700 watts or 1,300 watts.

Another Bright Idea from Rittal…

Rittal is launching a new generation of lights designed specifically for enclo-sures. The range sets new standards for energy and high performance using LED technology which will deliver up to 1,200 lumens, and for easy installation, there are simple connection and mounting options.

Lighting is an area that is often neglected in the design of enclosures and yet it plays a vital role in helping with installation and maintenance. The ability to easily identify different wire colours, for example, is clearly vital for both.

“Working within an enclosure is far simpler if the space is illuminated with our state-of-the-art lighting technology,” says Paul Metcalfe, Rittal’s Product Manager for Enclosures.

“High-performance lighting also helps to avoid errors during installation, maintenance or repair work, and avoid expensive delays.  Added to which, the simple mounting of the lights saves valuable workshop time.”

Targeted illumination
Two models of the new enclosure lights are being launched with luminous fluxes of 900 and 1200 lumens.

They use LEDs which provide outstanding energy efficiency and have a much longer lifetime than other light sources. Their transparent plastic lens with integrated Fresnel lenses focus the light in such a way that the entire enclosure is illuminated, even down at the bottom.  It means the light can be targeted towards areas where it is needed – without being scattered into the exterior.

If required, the system can also daisy-chain up to 15 lights from a single power source.

Rapid installation and simple mounting
There are a range of options for turning the lights on and off – by an integrated switch, a door switch or a motion detector.  Each light is also equipped with a socket.

The connections have been designed to simplify assembly work and allow rapid installation. For example, the lights can be attached using pre-assembled cables with connectors.  The lamp connection can also be swivelled through 90 degrees, allowing a cable to be easily fitted even in enclosures which are just 600 mm wide.

Integrates perfectly in enclosures all over the world
The new enclosure lights fit perfectly into the Rittal TS 8 baying enclosure system and can be installed without any loss of space. They can be mounted by just one individual without the need for any additional help and each model has three mounting options: a magnetic retainer, a clip fastener in the TS 8 section or by screw fastening.

The lights can be used across the world thanks to their wide-range voltage input, which will be of considerable benefit to controllers, switchgear manufacturers and mechanical engineers who work across international markets. There is no need to change electrical planning or the parts list and the lights all come with the appropriate internationally important approvals (e.g. from the UL, for the US market).

Purchasing and assembly is also simple with easy ordering and storage processes as well as options within the range to suit every need and requirement.
